This difficult vintage was marked, among other factors, by extremely low yields due to poor flowering in Spring 2021, which was caused by high winds that uprooted huge trees around Flinders and the Peninsula. Our yield of Pinot Noir was less than 20% of the longtime average. Instead of having the usual 5 fermentation vats we needed only one in 2022. Only 10% whole bunches were used in this ferment. The resulting wine surprised me on its structure, purity and balance and lot of flavor. It is different to our usual Pinot Noirs to date partly due to the low whole bunches and partly due to the difficult season.
